Preparing a Vintage Car for the Copperstate 1000
11 Mile Detail Co works with owners who enter the Copperstate 1000, the Men's Arts Council rally running April 3–7, 2027, before the drive and after it. Work is by appointment at the private studio in far North Phoenix, performed personally by AB, and the calendar is limited, so book early. Original paint is inspected first and treated with preservation in mind.

Who this is for
This page is for owners of sports, racing and grand touring cars built up to and including the 1973 model year, with later cars considered case by case, who have applied to or are considering the Copperstate 1000. The rally is a long drive rather than a static display. Preparation is about what the road will leave on the paint, glass and brightwork, and what to do about it once the rally ends on April 7.
- The organizer calls it a four-day, 1,000-mile drive within the April 3–7 dates, and the route is not published; accepted entrants receive the route book at registration. Plan protection for a full range of conditions rather than a known itinerary.
- With a 1973 model-year cutoff, any entry is at least 50 years old, so original paint is a real possibility and should be inspected before anything is corrected. Clones, reproductions, tributes and recreations are not eligible.
- Applications are due January 11, 2027, with acceptance notices the week of January 18, 2027. Detailing slots can be reserved before you hear back, but treat the schedule as set only after acceptance.
Preparing for Copperstate 1000
October through December 2026
Request a paint assessment while the application is pending. AB inspects the finish with LED lighting and paint-thickness readings and tells you what is worth correcting and what should be left alone.
By late January 2027
Once acceptance is confirmed the week of January 18, book any multi-day correction or ceramic coating work. AB personally performs every service, so slots are limited.
February to early March 2027
Finish correction, if the paint calls for it, and coating by early March so the car is back before the late-March detail.
Late March 2027
Schedule the final complete detail after the last mechanical or trailer work and before the car leaves for the April 3 start, with studio drop-off and collection coordinated in advance.
April 8–30, 2027
Book post-rally care for the days after the April 7 finish: removal of road film, bug residue and desert dust from paint, glass and wheels. Engine bay cleaning is part of Complete Detail, scoped after AB inspects the engine compartment.

We coordinate studio drop-off and pickup with you and share the address before arrival. Please arrange a ride, as there is no waiting area.
The work that fits this event
- Complete Detail is the usual starting point both before the rally and after it. Before: a clean, decontaminated baseline. After: a methodical removal of insect residue, tar and road film. It can be done mobile at a suitable address in an approved ZIP, or at the studio.
- Ceramic coating is the protection option for a car that will face the sun, grit and insects along the Copperstate route. It is professional work, normally done at the studio. On original paint, that decision comes after inspection.
- For single-stage original paint from before the 1973 cutoff, AB may recommend only a light Paint Enhancement or no correction at all. Two-step and show-level correction use the studio.
Complete Detail
A Complete Detail covers the vehicle inside and out: washing, chemical and mechanical decontamination, engine bay, steam and extraction, and exterior protection. AB does the work personally, at your home as mobile detailing or at our North Phoenix studio.
Ceramic Coating
Professional ceramic coating is done at our North Phoenix studio: paint preparation, coating application and a controlled cure. AB assesses your paint before quoting. Choose a 2-to-3-year coating or a 5-year coating; for a lighter, 1-year option that can be done at your home, see Express Ceramic.
Paint Correction
Paint Enhancement improves gloss with very light correction. 1-Step, 2-Step and Show Correction treat heavier defects at each step up. AB assesses the finish in person before quoting. Enhancement and 1-Step are available mobile or at the studio. 2-Step and Show Correction need controlled conditions.
